Line Sharing
Interlync's ADSL services are line shared.
Line sharing allows you to use your existing phone line for both
analog phone service and for your Interlync DSL service. There is no
need for a second line. This means that your telephone service will
not be interrupted while you are on the Internet. The voice does not
affect the data and the data does not affect the voice. They share
the line! Line sharing also means that Interlync can provide your
ADSL service to you via a more cost effective solution: Self
Installation. Since your ADSL service is sharing the same phone line
with your existing voice service, there is generally no need for a
Interlync technician to visit your premises.
Please note You will need a working phone line with a
dial tone to utilize line shared services. If you use a cellular
phone as your primary means of voice communication, you will still
need to keep an active phone line for your DSL service.
What should you know about line
sharing?
There are certain technical limitations of line sharing that you
should be aware of before you order ADSL services
from Interlync.
- You must have local
telephone service through the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier
(ILEC). This is your "main" local phone company.
- The information on your
Interlync order (name, address, and telephone number) must
be an exact match to the information on your
local phone bill, or Interlync will not be able to process
your order.
- Certain technologies that
the phone companies are using to provide your local voice
service are not compatible with line sharing. There are a
variety of these reasons that could prevent you from obtaining
shared line services from Interlync or any other provider.

Self Installation
Self Installation is one of the most important benefits of line
sharing for Interlync customers. Interlync's use of self
installation kits allows you to obtain ADSL
services in a much more cost effective manner than having a
Interlync technician visit your premises to complete the
installation. Interlync's award-winning self installation utilize an
easy 3 step process to guide customers to a successful installation
in under 30 minutes. And, if you have trouble along the way, the
technicians in the Installation Support Center are standing by to
help you.
What comes in the self
installation kits?
- DSL modem or router (depends
on the service you order)
These devices connect your computer to the Internet using DSL.
- DSL blockers/filters
Also called In-line filters and micro-filters. This device
plugs into the telephone jack and is used to separate your
voice signal from the DSL signal on the same line.
- Y-Adapters
The Y-adapter is a device that is plugged into a telephone
jack. This allows telephone equipment and the DSL line to run
through the same jack.
- Telephone Cable
This cable connects the DSL modem or router to the jack.
- Ethernet Cable
This is the cable that connects your computer to your DSL
modem or router.
- Instructions and
Troubleshooting Guide
These documents will walk you through the entire installation
process, and help you solve any problems that might come up
along the way.

What do I need to know about self installation?
As with line sharing, there are specific technical limitations of
self installation. If any of the scenarios below apply to you, you
will need to pay for a professional installation. Interlync will
send a technician to your home or business to complete the
installation.
- Do you have a security or
health monitoring alarm connected to your phone line?
If you have one of these devices connected directly to
your phone line, meaning that it is not plugged into a phone
jack, you will need a Professional Installation. A Interlync
technician must visit your premises and install a device (a
DSL splitter) that physically separates the analog voice
signals from the DSL signal.
- Do you have more than 5
devices connected to your phone line?
If you have more than 5 devices (telelphones, fax machines,
satellite or cable box, etc.) connected to your phone line,
you must have a Professional Installation. A Interlync
technician must visit your premises and install a DSL
splitter.

Please Note: Interlync will not install any network cards
(Ethernet) during the installation process, you must have 10Base-T
(Ethernet) network cards installed and working prior to self
installation or Interlync technician arrival. |
